I read this on excommunication: “A priest absolving his partner in a sin against the 6th Commandment”.

I don’t quite understand this, can someone please clarify this for me? Basically, my understanding is that a priest and his partner are having sexual relations with each other, and the priest absolves his partner for committing these sexual sins that were committed with him. Who is supposed to be excommunicated? The priest or his partner?

The priest. 1378 discusses “the priest”, not “the penitent.”

The priest’s partner nevertheless hasn’t been absolved of the sin, unless she’s in danger of death.
