Hello! I have a question on the Sacrament of Confirmation and need some guidance as to how to continue. To give some background, I am a baptized Catholic, and have received the Eucharist, yet when I was younger took the Church much less seriously than I do today. I did not the the Sacraments for what they were and instead took them as a checklist. I then saw an opportunity for Confirmation in a non denominational Church, and, with me being so young and my family not being very religious, I got “confirmed” through a non denominational Church. This has left me at somewhat of a crossroads, as recently I have fully accepted the Catholic Church and have come back to the faith. I am aware that I am certainly lacking this Sacrament, but am uncertain of what steps have to be taken to proceed. What must I do now to further my life with the Lord and the Church?

You nest step should be to talk to your parish priest. He will know how his bishop handles adult catechized Catholics. You might need to be confirmed by the bishop, or the bishop may give your pastor permission to confirm you.

In any event, it will be the pastor who will be responsible for any supplemental catechesis you may need.

Just contact your pastor and he will guide you.

Whether adults in need of completion for sacraments go to the bishop or are confirmed by the pastor depends on the diocese. And also in this time of COVID many bishops have delegated faculties to priests. As to what prep needs to precede it, that is also up to the pastor.

Call the local parish and make an appointment with the pastor to discuss, by phone if COVID is a concern.
