Question on Covering

Yeah, I’m sure you’ve seen and heard or may know of an off-the-wall liberal feminist.

I’ve heard so many of them say that we are being submissive by covering our heads. “Why don’t the guys have to cover their heads? That just proves that this religion is patriarchal. Women are going back to the days where they covered their heads to show they were nothing more than slaves of men.”

I’ve heard a few of them say it.

Are there really people who believe it’s as shallow as that? I haven’t actually met these women yet but I admit I run in pretty small circles.

Sadly, yes. It just annoys me. They act like it was going to make them nothing if they put something over their hair and didn’t wear whatever they wanted. It’s all puffed up pride.

Hey, people in my own church who go to the “children’s (aka new christian rock)” Mass look at those of us who go to the next Mass after them, as freaks. I get stared at like I’m a muslim going to Mass or something. It’s like…what the heck?

I’ve actually had Catholic women tell my roommate that we shouldn’t cover ‘our pretty hair’ or our ‘pretty faces’ with our head coverings because then the men can’t see us. :rolleyes: That one made me more determined to wear my hat not less… I don’t WANT them to be looking at my pretty hair and pretty face at Mass!

BUT my non-Catholic non-Christian friends just kind of look at the head coverings as a weird thing but their attitude is: Go for it if that’s what makes you happy. They tend to be more tolerant then those who are religious.

I’d be interested to meet a non-Christian who is against head coverings in church.

Yeah, it’s the post vatican 2 ladies usually, it seems. Generally, it’s the ones that thought that they were “freed” by vatican 2, from what restraints, goodness knows. 🤷

They think they don’t have to veil, when in reality, V2 said nothing about that, really.

Yeah, I’d bet that non-christians probably wouldn’t care, except for Wiccans, certain other neopagans, and militant feminists who don’t fit the previous 2 categories.

I’m one of those awful “post-Vatican ll ladies” and I don’t wear a headcovering at Mass. However****, I refrain from making comments about women who opt to use a headcovering at Mass…other than to mention that it’s their choice to do so if they feel called to do so and I don’t judge others reasons to or not to wear a hat, veil, beret, or bandanna on their head at Mass (or any other time).
 
hey if you want to veil and wear alittle make up, go ahead , nothing wrong with it,
Perfume on the other hand is best for at home, and that goes for mens cologne, as that can affect other people. 🙂

** I have heard that Mother Angelica once said that for some women, wearing make-up was an act of charity towards others! **

😃 Oh you have to love her and her sense of humor.
