I practice a few acts of penance which I offer up as atonement for my sins and the sins of others. Without being specific, these are acts aimed to cause me discomfort, or inconvenience, but don’t cause me any harm.
My question is, if one becomes used to a form of penance, does it still merit?
I have noticed that while my intention is still good in doing the acts, it can be less devoted and I am less focused because it feels routine.
