Should we, or are we required to ask forgiveness from, someone we have sinned against when we know that by asking it will only stir the pot more and make matters worse? When we know that we are toxic to this person and that we may be even a near occasion of sin to them?

I’m going to be taking this to confession of course, but I have concerns if I approach this person, it’s just going to make matters worse due to their anger issues.

I’m tired of the fighting.

I would probably avaoid this person until they calm down.
But pray for them, and if you have a chance to do them a good turn, then do it.

I think you should use prudence. If you know that contacting this person would cause more problems then you should stay away.
If you encounter this person don’t do what you know will cause problems. Instead behave the behavior of one who is asking forgiveness. Go out of your way to be nice.

You have got the right idea regarding taking this issue to the confessional. A wonderful blessing regarding actions which conflict you is to share sacrifices you are considering making with your confessor, and trust his advice as Jesus’ message.

We should even take the smallest of our sacrifices to the confessional because with the blessing of the confessor, we can trust the sacrifice will be more effective and efficient, while without his blessing, we can trust that the sacrifice would be either ineffective, inefficient and possibly even harmful to our mission.

Taken from Diary of Saint Faustina
“639 Thursday. During the evening adoration, I saw Jesus scourged and tortured. He said to me, My daughter, I desire that even in the smallest things, you rely on your confessor. Your greatest sacrifices do not please Me if you practice them without the confessor’s (94) permission; on the other hand, the
smallest sacrifice finds great value in My eyes, if it is done with his permission. The greatest works are worthless in My eyes if they are done
out of self-will, and often they are not in accord with My will and merit punishment rather than reward. And on the other hand, even the smallest of yours acts, done with the confessor’s permission is pleasing in My eyes and very dear to Me. Hold firmly to this always. Be constantly on the watch, for many souls will turn back from the gates of hell and worship My mercy. But fear nothing, as I am with you. Know that of yourself you can do nothing.”

Do not approach this person if doing so makes it worse for them. Ask forgiveness of God: confess to a priest. Stay away from the person you wronged.

If your approaching the person is going to set them off again or upset them, leave them alone, pray for them, confess your sin to the priest and ask God’s forgiveness.
