Hello all. Apologies if I’m not posting this in the correct place but I wasn’t sure where best to post this. I have a quick question regarding a pendant I’d like to have blessed for my step daughter. I’ve bought her a St. Benedict pendant as she has said she’d like something to wear that would protect her. I’d like to have it blessed by a priest but I’m not Catholic, in fact I’m not a member of any organized religion. Would it be inappropriate for me to approach a local priest to have it blessed for her? If it’s ok when would I go to ask, would I have to go after a mass or something? I’m completely unfamiliar with any etiquette or rules when it comes to Catholicism…

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

You can. Contact your local parish, and the ought to be more than happy to arrange an appointment with a priest.

A medal is a sacramental, not an amulet or talisman. The Catholic Catechism explains that:
1677 Sacramentals are sacred signs instituted by the Church. They prepare men to receive the fruit of the sacraments and sanctify different circumstances of life.
1678 Among the sacramentals blessings occupy an important place. They include both praise of God for his works and gifts, and the Church’s intercession for men that they may be able to use God’s gifts according to the spirit of the Gospel.
It is good to have it blessed, for then the Church has approved of its use.

It’s a great idea to have a Holy medal Blessed. The blessing carries the blessing and power of the WHOLE Church as the priest is acting on behalf of the whole Church. Plus the st Benedict medal contains very powerful prayers of exorcism on it. Please ensure you have it blessed using the proper blessing. There is a specific blessing for the st Benedict medal. Just contact your nearest Catholic Church. God bless you.

That’s good to know, I wasn’t aware of a specific blessing for this medal. Thank you very much!
