I understand that the sacrament of Holy Orders confers an indelible mark and can only be received once. My question is what then happens when a deacon is ordained a priest? The deacon has already received Holy Orders so he cannot receive them again upon becoming a priest. I have read that a priest upon becoming a bishop is consecrated, not re-ordained so that at least makes some sense to me but I have never heard this for a deacon becoming a priest. Can someone with more knowledge of how this works explain it to me?

Though one sacrament, Holy Orders is received in three degrees, Each imparts a new character of that same sacrament, with the lower two degrees being but partial reception of the fullness found in episcopal orders.
