Catholic teaching states that when we die we will instantly know our eternal fate as we will receive our particular judgment (CCC 1021-1022). We also know that at the end of time, there will be a general resurrection and a last judgment (CCC 1038-1041), at which time the “truth of each man’s relationship with God will be laid bare”.

Two questions:
  1. If my soul goes to heaven after my particular judgment, am I still subject to the last judgment? Do I get judged twice?
  2. If the answer is “yes”, what about say King David…does he get judged a second time?
Any help in clearing up my confusion would be most appreciated.

V. The Last Judgment
1038 The resurrection of all the dead, “of both the just and the unjust,” will precede the Last Judgment. This will be “the hour when all who are in the tombs will hear [the Son of man’s] voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.” Then Christ will come “in his glory, and all the angels with him … Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left… and they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
1039 In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man’s relationship with God will be laid bare. The Last Judgment will reveal even to its furthest consequences the good each person has done or failed to do during his earthly life:
All that the wicked do is recorded, and they do not know. When “our God comes, he does not keep silence.”. . . he will turn towards those at his left hand: . . . “I placed my poor little ones on earth for you. I as their head was seated in heaven at the right hand of my Father - but on earth my members were suffering, my members on earth were in need. If you gave anything to my members, what you gave would reach their Head. Would that you had known that my little ones were in need when I placed them on earth for you and appointed them your stewards to bring your good works into my treasury. But you have placed nothing in their hands; therefore you have found nothing in my presence.”
1040 The Last Judgment will come when Christ returns in glory. Only the Father knows the day and the hour; only he determines the moment of its coming. Then through his Son Jesus Christ he will pronounce the final word on all history. We shall know the ultimate meaning of the whole work of creation and of the entire economy of salvation and understand the marvellous ways by which his Providence led everything towards its final end. the Last Judgment will reveal that God’s justice triumphs over all the injustices committed by his creatures and that God’s love is stronger than death.
1041 The message of the Last Judgment calls men to conversion while God is still giving them “the acceptable time, . . . the day of salvation.” It inspires a holy fear of God and commits them to the justice of the Kingdom of God. It proclaims the “blessed hope” of the Lord’s return, when he will come “to be glorified in his saints, and to be marvelled at in all who have believed.”
As to your questions:
  1. I don’t think we are judged upon our death. We go to heaven if our relationship with God is in good order, hell if we do not want Him.
  2. Of all humanity, including King David, I would suppose, “. . . those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment . . .”

Ive often wondered about the logistics of this event, when everyone that has died is resurrected on the earth, this will obviously ALOT of people all the sudden, not to mention the people currently living during these times! I just wonder what will go on during this time, I assume it will take alot of time for each and every one of them to be judged, so thats alot of time, will the resurrected dead be able to just walk around, go to old places they remember, interact with the living, or ?

Not to mention how they are going to even think about keeping law and order in the large cities during this time! Id love to see how the city and national govts will deal with this!

I hope Im alive during this time though, it will definitely be interesting to witness!

I fought a parking ticket, and even that took six months to be heard in court - it was dropped.
I’m thinking about all the lawyers. They will be judged first I assume - get the unequivocal cases done quickly at the start.
And, the line-ups. I had to wait fifteen minutes at McDonald’s before even ordering a coffee. To go through a whole life story, how long is that going to take.
You must be a better person than I. There is a certain amount of anxiety looking forward to judgement.

Yea, I agree!

But I didnt really consider that when this happens, no one will have any other place to be, (nothing to do but wait I guess??) I kind of doubt people will be going to work, school, or anything else…as once this happens, there will no hiding it or keeping it secret in the media, we will all know our world is going to change, so no point in earning a paycheck or continuing education. It will be interesting to see how Govts react…I would bet they all crumble within days.

Although I still wonder how some of the resurrected will act once they are back in their bodies on earth, mainly the ones who have been in hell for hundreds or thousands of years…will they have a free for all, or attempt to harm, kill living people? what will be in place to stop this if this is the case?
