Question re: 01/12/10 Mass reading Mk 1:29-39

Mark 1:34 NAB: “He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.”

… because they knew him? What might they have said that he didn’t want them to say? This verse struck me but I can’t quite wrap my head around it.

I think, subject to correction from wiser minds, that what He did not want them to say was who He was. There are several passages indicating that He did not want anyone to say that He was the Messiah, the Son of God, until He was ready for them to.

I agree with RSD. Our Lord Jesus had not wanted the fact that he was the Messiah, whom the Jewish people had been expecting, to be made public until the people ready for that very important information.
