I understand some paralyzed people have been refused the sacrament of marriage.
My husband and I have rejoined the church and are planning to have our marriage validated. He is unable to engage in conventional marital relations; however it’s scarcely relevant as I’m past the age of childbearing. We have 5 children already, 3 of them still at home. Is there any reason why we shouldn’t go ahead and validate our marriage?

Of course not… contact your Priest and go for it… congratulations! 👍

Hi!
(As mentioned in other posts of mine)
I’m 43, legally blind (left eye) and a weakened (3 surgery) right eye. I had aalways had a ‘hopeless’ outlook on whether I would get married, because I always thought , ‘what women would want to fuss over me. and that I would be difficult to live with.’
However, I just pray and trust in God to accept whatever vocational lifestyle I may still have. (Would be great to have a child or two…still have names in my head for them). 🙂

For the first post, I am glad you will have the ability to get married. God bless both of you!

Go with God!

Permanent impotence at the time of the marriage is an impediment, so yes those who are paralyzed might not be able to marry. It would be relevant whether you were past child-bearing years or not. The inability to complete the act of intercourse is an impediment to a valid marriage.

However, this situation does not seem to be the case with you, as clearly your husband was not impotent at the time of your marriage (I’m assuming the 5 kids are natural and not adopted). So, there should be no problem with the validation, even though he is not able to have intercourse now.

Discuss this with a priest just to make sure.

I know a couple who were married(in their 20’s), and he is paralyzed from the waist down, so it is definetly permissable. I would get it blessed even if it isn’t required, it opens your marriage to more graces. Talk to a priest.

Our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph never consummated their marriage but they always followed the church(Jewish) laws.

Just my 2 cents…God bless
chris
