I have a son who is 15 months old and in need of Baptism, (a little overdue in my mind.) The problem is in trying to find the godparents. I don’t really know of anyone who is a practicing Catholic among my family/friends. I am in the military and have moved recently so I am still getting to know people at my new home. However, there aren’t many Catholics here either. So my question is what is the rule regarding godparents?
I intend to take this up with my priest after confession on saturday, but am looking for information ahead of time. Thanks in advance for any informationyou are able to provide.

Well you only need 1 Godparent, so if you know a good Catholic that would like to choose, you don’t need to try and find a second.

You have a couple of options. As already stated you only need one Godparent. 1.) Your Pastor can find one for you. 2.) You can have a family member or friend who may not live near-by be the God-parent by Proxy.

You need at least one godparent who is at least 16yrs. of age,& a practicing Catholic who has received the sacrament of Confirmation. If you are in the military, there has to be a chaplain that you discuss these questions with. He may be the one who will be doing your child’s baptism as well. In most cases, if it is done at a parish, you will need to attend some baptismal instructional class as well. Pray, Pray and pray some more. You will be surprised how God will respond to your desires to have your baby baptized.
