Question regarding flowers on the altar

I have a question/issue that I have been pondering and need your help…

Are there any requirements regarding the use of artificial or fresh flowers on the altar ???

I’m trying to get my facts straight on this matter before overstepping my bounds or making myself sound ignorant…

No flowers at all artificial or fresh are allowed on the altar.

I wanted to say, “Flowers on the Altar of Repose”
can those placed beside the tabernacle be artificial or do they need to be fresh…

I have seen both. I do not believe that there is any specific requirement. Other than they should not be on top of the tabernacle itself and should not overwelm the Blessed Sacrament in the ciborium. They should be simple. The best that I have seen is the use of small green palm trees and other green plants. This brings out the “garden” better than flowers. IMO

Advent it is allowed but only moderate so as not to express fully the Christmas joy but as you say they are forbidden during Lent.

I used to assist the Liturgical director at my parish. This was quite a few years back. Being in northern minnesota we have access to many natural materials, but one year I thought that we might be able to use artificial wreaths, you know some cost effective ways of doing things. Our pastor told me that nothing artificial in nature could be used in the sanctuary, but in the body of the church we could use artificial. Hope that helps. By the way, the artificial wreaths looked terrible, and I went back to natural stuff!!
