Question Regarding Music

Okay, here’s the deal:

I recently learned that downloading music was a sin, no problem; I deleted all the downloaded music. But that got me thinking, is it a sin to listen to some of the music I listen to? I listen to a lot of metal and rock music, and of course the lyrics include references to violence and acceptence and glorification of premarital sex etc. The fact is listening to these things DOESN’T affect me because I often listen just for the instrumental talent (yes, rock and metal has instrumental talent included, ask me and I’ll provide examples :p) and often tune out lyrical themes, hearing the singing but not the words (in some of the music I listen to I often can’t even hear what they’re singing lol). The words I do hear, I disagree with, but I have to admit that I love listening to the guitars, the bass (I’m a bassist myself), and the lengthy instrumentals.

So the question is, is it a sin, especially if, I repeat, it doesn’t affect me.
 
I would say it is not a sin, but I’m biased being listener of metal myself! At the worst it’s a near occasion for sin, but even that depends on the individual’s sensitivities. If it isn’t a near occasion of sin for you then I wouldn’t worry.
 
Personally, I don’t think it’s a sin. I’m in a similar situation and I think as long as you’re careful not to let the lyrics effect you then it’s fine. However, I do recommend listening to some Christian music every now and then. It’s nice to have God reveal Himself to you through music other than during Mass.
 
I do listen to some Christian metal! Tourniquet is great, and some of Stryper’s work is good as well!

I of course draw the line in my music at satanic. There are obvious limits.
