Question regarding the timeline of The Presentation of our Lord

Hello, this has been nagging me for some time so I thought I would see what people think.

Mathew mentions the flight to Egypt after the birth of Jesus to escape Herod. Luke does not include the flight to Egypt, but has the Presentation at the Temple on Jesus’ 8th day.

So did Mary and Joseph go to Jerusalem for the Presentation and risk being captured by Herod, and then flee to Egypt from there? Luke says they returned to Galilee.

Also, if we assume that the wise men followed the star to Bethlehem, then the we almost have to assume that they did so before the Presentation at the Temple. In this case, why didn’t Mary and Joseph offer some of the gold instead of the turtle doves.

Nothing in the Bible says exactly when the Maji visited the Holy Family. It is perfectly logical to think that the Presentation occurred before the visit of the Magi and before Herod was “tipped off”.
 
The magi visited the holy family in a house, so it was probably not the same location as the birth (not an inn, someplace with a manger).

Herod went after children 2 years and younger, so Jesus may have been more than a year old by the time of the warning to flee to Egypt.

The tradition of placing the Magi with the shepherds are only pious tradition. No support from ECF or the NT.
 
Also we are told the magi found “the child” rather than “baby” . . .

I don’t read Greek but it appears that the word Matthew uses (paidion) means “a young child” and not a baby. Luke’s recording of the angelic message to the shepherds uses “brephos” which means newborn. (In Luke Simeon uses paidion for the child at the Presentation, though, so it can apparently mean a very young child . . .)
