He is the fulfillment of the promises made to the Jews in the Old Testament. The Jews at the time of our Lord did not accept him as their Messias and therefore put him to death. Their particular calling as the chosen people was turned into a curse upon them, according to the Word of God, “For you, brethren, are become followers of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for you also have suffered the same things from your own coutrymen, even as they have from the Jews, Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men” (I. Thess. ii. 14-15). They cannot be saved without renouncing their Talmudic religion that does not even resemble the Old Law and entering the Church founded by our Lord Jesus Christ.
