I have just recently finished a book by Nicky Elz (sp?) which was an interview with Maria Simma, called Get Us Out of Here. It was a very interesting book, and I really appreciated a lot of the insights on Purgatory, but, I ended up being a little uncomfortable with the whole impression given.
Maria Simma is in Austria, and the connection with Medjugorie is that they are publishing these books about her. I do believe she said she has been to Medjugorie, though.
It seems that Maria Simma says that the souls in Purgatory insist that when receiving Communion, one must always kneel, and receive on the tongue. I have a little bit of a problem with this (the kneeling part) because the US Bishops have said we are to bow slightly before receiving. Now aren’t we supposed to be obedient? I thought that approved apparitions, etc. would not go against the Gospels, nor against the Church. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against the kneeling, and I do receive on the tongue, but I believe as Catholic Christians, we are called to obedience – first of all to God, and then to the Church Christ instituted.
Another thing that troubled me about this situation is the fact that we are not to try and communicate with the dead. Nicky Elz and Maria Simma say that she has never instigated any of this herself, that the poor souls come to her. But many hundreds of people call, write or show up at her door to ask her about the status of lost loved ones, and she supposedly finds out for them.
I do believe this is possibly something from God, but I am just not real sure of it, so I try not to put a lot of faith in it. Just my:twocents:
