Questions about Guardian Angels

Okay so that title is a bit click-baity.

Anyway my question is this:

Everybody has a guardian angel… so let’s say from the time of Adam to the Parousia, there will be 150,000,000,000 human beings to walk this earth.
  1. does that mean there are 150,000,000,000 guardian angels? In other words, did God create the exact amount of angels as the amount of humans who would ever inhabit planet earth?
Or -

Do angels get “recycled” - if Angelo the Angel guards John Smith who lives from 1900 - 1987, then John Smith dies, does Angelo then get “reassigned” to Bobby Smith who is born in 1988?

And finally -

Since guardian angels aren’t bound by space or time, can our hypothetical Angelo the Guardian Angel be the guardian of say 10 human beings? Or only one at a time?

Have any Saints, say Augustine or Aquinas attempted to tackle these questions? Are there several theological opinions on this or what?

I find angelology to be fascinating, if not somewhat speculative.

Actually, Jesus didn’t say there was a one to one relationship GA to person. That is just an assumption. So, for all we know, there could be 150,000,000,000 angels per person.

2 Kings 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
 
I don’t remember having the impression any of them were recycled, from anything I’ve read, but I do remember one bit in a book by a particular Blessed that suggests that our angels are matched to us. In other words, Cajun’s Guardian Angel has a personality that would be very similar to what Cajun would have been like in an unfallen world; De_Maria has a Guardian Angel that’s matched to what De_Maria’s personality would have been like in a perfect world; same thing for Spyridon; and so on.
 
The number of Angels in existence is many times the number of Humans.
Each of us gets one Guardian Angel. Thus only a small minority of Angels ever becomes a Guardian.
I read somewhere (don’t recall where) that no Guardian is reassigned once their charge has died.
 
If guardian angels get recycled, I hope the Lord gives mine a loooonnnng extended period of R and R. Buzz (my guardian angel’s name) needs it having to have put up with me 🤣:roll_eyes: all these years!

I counted exactly 276,124 Angels on a standard stick pin. I counted the number of wings and divided by 2.

There may be more or less, depending on the dimensions of the pin, however.
 
It is the teaching of the Church that every human being has his own individual guardian angel, who was assigned to him at the moment of conception, at the moment of the soul’s creation and the body’s beginning. They assist us, and try to get us to listen to God. The teaching that every human has a guardian angel is “certain doctrine,” the fourth level down of Church teaching. (Dogma is the first level.)

The teaching that there is no recycling of angel guardians is “probable doctrine,” which is the fifth level of teaching.

The idea that all societies, cities, countries, clubs, etc. also have guardian angels (as extrapolated from the angels of particular areas and peoples, in the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation) is a “permissible teaching,” the sixth level down and the only level that you don’t have to believe if you don’t want to.

Btw, one of the joys of the guardian angels is that, if their charges get to Heaven, they get to rejoice with them forever. So don’t let your guardian angel down! 🙂

Remember, though, that “guardian angel” is a job description. This suggests that the angels who guard us also have other jobs in Creation, although probably not while we are alive and in danger.

Didn’t see any 6 wingers on that pin. My guess is that the extra volume of those wings would suggest perhaps fewer on a standardized pin.
 
What is interesting is that I saw on a Jewish website something that is undoubtedly not Catholic: the belief that “normal” angels are essentially God’s robots, that normal angels only have one role and upon completing this one role they are destroyed.
 
Yes. The poor Jews without the fullness of truth apparently didn’t grasp that that is not God’s Nature.
I believe the article tried to say that the angels who were named in the Bible were the archangels, and they were in control of two things.
