what is the importance of spiritual director if I discern the priesthood? Do I really need to have one if I don’t plan to enter seminary in near future (3-5 years)?

What do you talk to your spiritual director? I talk to a priests recently, I just feel that he could be a good spiritual director for me. Well,it was the first time we met and we talked for about an hour.

I told him almost everything about my jouney in the Catholic Faith. However, if I were to meet him again, I’m not sure what I should talk about as I told him most things that he should know about me.

I’d appreciate if you could give suggestion of what I should talk about.

if you are discerning a vocation your spiritual growth should be your top priority at this stage of life (not that it shouldn’t for all of us at all times) so yes, like all mature Christians, you should have a spiritual director. If this good priest is willing to serve, that’s great. If you are growing spiritually, yes you will have things to discuss from time to time. Let him suggest an appropriate meeting schedule. Spiritual growth is not something you are going to put off until you are ready for seminary. Be warned also that once you make decisions leading you on this road, you will definitely meet challenges from the world, the flesh and the devil tempting you away from this path, and you will definitely need spiritual direction to combat them.

I really don’t know, because most priests that I know of are busy. I realised about spiritual warfare and I have to be ready anytime. Thanks for reminding me! 🙂
I started to attend regular daily mass and 1 hour Eucharistic Adoration every day. I think I’ll want to see him again after my exam ( my final exam will be from 14-22 June, prayer will be very much appreciated!) 😃
