That was basically my last question about this devotion, so…
What makes me uneasy is that the official teaching used to be that if someone dies with mortal sin, without any repentance they would go straight to hell, but from what it seems this devotion teaches something different.

That’s not what the Divine Mercy devotion teaches at all, or else it wouldn’t have been approved.
