Hey, I’m pretty new to catholic traditions, prayers, etc. I was baptised Lutheran and then proceeded to ignore religion throughout my teen years, until now, in my early twenties, I’m going to convert to being a Catholic.
And well, I have a lot of questions about different prayers and books, etc.

My first question is, what exactly is The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary and how do I use it?

My second question relates to prayers I’ve found in The Catholic Prayer Book.
What is the Jesus Psalter? Is that something I pray or what?
Also, the Litany of the Sacred Heart? Does anyone else have The Catholic Prayer book? Or something like it? It was a 25 dollar book with black plastic leather and gold leafed pages and embossing on the cover.

Sorry about being so new to all this. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!🙂

Howdy. I am also a lapsed Luteran now in RCIA. 👍

Considering that their are thousands of prayer books and stuff, here is what I have collected in the last few months.

From the ROSARY ARMY at rosaryarmy.com
A string rosary and full instructions as how to pray the rosary.

The book MY TREASURY OF CHAPLAETS by Patricia S. Quintiliani. More prayers that can be said on the rosary or other sets of beads.🙂

FAVORITE CATHOLIC NOVENAS FOR ALL OCCASIONS from Regina Press. More then enough prayers to keep you busy all year, year after year. Try to get some sleep every now and then.

O yes, and try to pick up a green scapular, have it blessed, wear it, and say the required prayer at least once a day. I say it frequently if I have a bit of idle time.

I look forward to seeing what others suggest

Boy that’s an awful lot of questions! I’ll try to answer at least some of 'em.

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is simply a series of prayers which are said at specific times of the day. They differ from day to day during the week. This site is probably the easiest to use, it has Morning Prayer (called Prime) and Evening prayer (called Vespers) for each day. Each consists of Psalms and other readings from the Bible and other spiritual writers about Our Lady. You just click on the link for which time of which day it is, and read straight through the prayer for that day, stopping a little to reflect on each reading after you’ve read it.

Yes the Jesus Psalter, which is on the internet here, is a series of fifteen prayers. Looks like you say them one after the other - each prayer as written on the website with an ‘Our Father’ and a ‘Hail Mary’ after each one.

Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is here, you simply read it through as is.

You can find info about any prayers that you may be unsure of simply by doing a google search with the name of the prayer. An awful lot of prayers are listed on the Internet.

Hello Bloody Sushi and Andruschak:

Just wanted to say how impressed I am of the two of you. I truly admire converts from other religions and the devotion they show to learning all things Catholic.

Your questions help me - a lifelong Catholic with the beautiful and oh so pleasing Prayers to Our Lord and Our Lady. What amazing Graces you are receiving!

You both are an inspiration to all Catholics and hopefully to those thinking about joining the Catholic Church.

Yours in Christ,
Sorrows

Of course, my old Lutheran Minister, Pastor Buchheimer, would be appalled that I am now praying for the suffering souls in Purgatory. 😦

but think how thrilled he will be if he dies first and finds out you are praying for his soul.
