Is God believed to be primarily Adaptive or Sovereign? On one hand we see God leading His people into the promised land, and planing Christ’s sacrifice from the beginning of time, however there are also people today who are born without arms, legs, or other extremities, in addition to people who have minor to severe mental disabilities and disorders that can turn them into vegetables. Are these people born this way intentionally, or is it the sole fault of sin? Even if God doesn’t cause it, does He have to expressly permit each evil, or does He Himself use it for good? From what I’ve seen, most Protestants view these matters as Sovereign, while a number of Catholics view God in a more adaptive light. Both have also argued that God will use evil if He can adapt it for a greater good, but which one is correct? Any doctrines? If not, opinions are welcome. Recently something happened to one of my relatives (and there’s likely no chance they’ll ever recover fully), so any answers are appreciated.
