Ya can’t see without color or without eyes. And this is to be distinguished from some other phenomenon in a quasi-imaginative faculty (since an integral part of our imagination is dead!)…
God can’t make a rock too heavy for Him to lift… If you can understand why, you will begin to see the matter clearly.
Well, myself, and more impressively, Dr. Edward Feser, would respectfully disagree with this. In our
limited human understanding, God could not make a rock too heavy for him to lift. However, I would assert that, being God, He could make said rock, and then proceed to lift it, utilizing means outside of our understanding. As the author of logic and all rules applying to it, I see no reason why God should be bound by it.
I think quite often the issues and hangups people have in these sorts of cases is falling into the old trap of limiting God by thinking of Him as sort of a great, big version of us.
God condescends to us, when He chooses, so His ways might be closer to our understanding. But just as we cannot learn anything of Him that He does not reveal or allow to be revealed, we also cannot hold Him to any scientific or philosophical laws or logical reasoning that we wish to apply to Him, if He does not with to be held by them in order to display a closer relationship to us.
For example, Jacob wrestling with God (or possibly an angel, and yes, possibly completely allegorical) could never have happened had God not allowed Himself to be subject to things like gravity, friction, tensile strength, etc., etc. However, as the creator and sustainer of all these things, He could choose to simply ignore them.
