I’ve heard it said that unrequited love, if it persists once all reasonable means of winning over its object have been exhausted, becomes sinful. I think this is correct, but I’m still left with questions.
  1. Does it constitute a venial or mortal sin?
  2. How does one know when all reasonable means have been exhausted?

When I told a woman I was giving up on trying to be with her, she told me she loved me, so I have no idea. (I am not great when it comes to relationships).

Who told you this?

Unrequited love could maybe turn into some sort of sin against charity if one becomes obsessed, it is rather immature.
