Good evening fellow CAF people,

I would very much like to have some help answering a few questions related to Catholicism that I have. I converted, soon to be two years ago, but I have a few questions I would like to have a clear answer to.
  • How far goes reaches the power of the Pope? (May he change doctrine all by himself etc.?)
  • When may the Pope reasonably claim to be infallible, and why does the Church approve for him to do so, what is the teaching behind and what does it rely on?
  • Why do we have this list of mortal sins? (It may seem for some that it´s too legalistic and giving the conclusion in cases which only God alone knows).
Thanks in advance. I look forward to hearing your answers.

I would advise against linking to SSPX websites, while their condition is confusing at best.

@Kima our hosts here at Catholic Answers have some helpful tracts:

We do not have a list of mortal sins.

Some things are sinful. The sin may be mortal if done with intent and knowledge.

Helpful, searchable copy of the Catechism

The article on sin begins here

Thank you both!

I will take a look onto those pages. Personally, I´m really not too skeptical to use SSPX websites haha, I actually like SSPX for that reason that they seem conservative.

But very nice that you linked to the Catechism 🙂
