I know that occult and the rest of that stuff is fake, but what if you were a little kid and believed in it; like wizards, and Harry potter sort of stuff, but you didn’t know any better? Is that a sin?

If it was fake it wouldn’t be dangerous.

The occult opens a person up to evil forces, which are real.

enjoying a work of fiction and the natural attraction to fantasy shared by most young children is a far cry from actual involvement with the occult. The key element is “you did not know any better?” There can be no sin of any kind without knowledge, free will and consent.

This is like my young son thinking superheros are real.

Superheros (like The Incredible Hulk) are not real. The occult is very real - or at least the religious components often followed by the followers. Much of the occult deals with devil worship which could easily coincide with satanic possession. Harry Potter is not a Satanist.

I’m not sure what you mean by believing in that type of stuff but not knowing any better. Believing Harry Potter is true isn’t a sin, it’s just a case of getting your facts mixed up and thinking that Harry Potter is a real character instead of a fictional one. I don’t think playing witch or something like that is a sin anymore than than playing pirates (or something else that would be a sin if it wasn’t pretend) is a sin. The occult is real, not fake. Attempting to participate in occult activities is objectively sinful. If somehow you don’t truly and innocently don’t know any better you are not culpable.
