Hi all,

I’d like to go to a Ukranian Catholic Church on the way to work (at a convient time). I got a few questions:
  1. I’m assuming that a Roman Cahtolic can go to conession at a Ukranian Cathoic church. Is this true?
  2. I will be traveling much and spending time with some family this weekend. If I ask for a dispensation at said church, will it be good?
  3. Should I ask for the despensation during my coneffession or after aboslution? Is it even appropriate to ask in the context?

don’t understand the question about a dispensation
A Ukranian Catholic church is a Catholic church. Mass and sacraments are Catholic and entirely valid.

It’s a very good possibilty that I’ll miss mass Saturday evening/Sunday

I think I understand the question, just a little saddended that so many Catholics still have to ask as to whether Mass attendence in any of the Eastern Catholic Churchs fulfills Sunday obligation, etc. , etc. Catholic is the operative word here; being in communion with the Pope of Rome they dont realize as part of the Universal Church they may attend any Divine Liturgy and receive Sacrements in any of them is a shame.

I don`t think a Catholic priest ; Latin or of any Eastern Church is going to grant dispensation from Mass attendence on the grounds of travelling, from your post sounds like the travelling is for pleasure. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Please don’t be offended. Until I moved to northeast Pennsylvania a few years ago, I had never been exposed to any of the Eastern Catholic churches. There simply were none where I had lived previously. I asked the same question when I moved here, because I know there are many ecclesial communities that are NOT in union with Rome that have the word “Catholic” in the name. I just wanted to make sure if I decided to visit that it was a church in union with Rome. Since then I have come to love the Divine Liturgy as celebrated in local Byzantine churches.

A dispensation should be sought from your own pastor, and for a serious reason. Telephone him if you need to.
