Are seminarians considered part of the laity? that’d be all

What you’re looking for is in paragraph 31 of Lumen Gentium, a Vatican II document.
LG 31:
The term laity is here understood to mean all the faithful except those in holy orders and those in the state of religious life specially approved by the Church.
So a seminarian who is not a member of a religious order/congregation is a member of the laity.

That would depend upon whether the seminarian had been ordained yet or not. Seminarians who have been ordained to the transitional diaconate are not laity. Those not yet ordained, are.

Ooh, good catch. I’ve never really thought of transitional deacons as seminarians before. Usually when I think seminarian, I’m thinking of one who hasn’t yet been ordained to the diaconate.
