I am hoping someone can come up with the correct answer! 😀

Why does the Catholic Church celebrate the nativity of Saint John the Baptist, liturgically?

😎

Maybe since he was the one to announce Jesus’ coming?

They also celebrate the nativity of mary. Im not sure why the church celebrates those 2 days but, I do like how the verse about how saint john must decrease as Christ increases is relevant to he time of the year right after the summer solstice when the light slowly goes down.

Because John the Baptist was a hugely important NT figure who predicted the coming of Jesus, baptized Jesus, and whose birth is treated with more detail than anyone else’s other than Jesus?

Is there one specific answer to this question?

Hmm well you’ve got me watching…CAF could use more quizzes!

I’ll admit, it’s a rather tough question- even priests get it wrong. However, once you see the answer, it’s as if it was right under your nose.

It is believed that St. John the Baptist was born without original sin.

Not conceived without original sin, but was sanctified in the womb.

Congratulations! And that is why Saint John the Baptist’s birth, along with Our Blessed Lord and Our Lady, is the only Saint’s nativity that we celebrate liturgically. 🙂

Yes, feasts celebrate saints. Most human beings are not saints when they are born…but Our Lady and St. John the Forerunner both came into this world as living saints :).
