I’ve been thinking of my Protestant husband and family a lot. I so desperately want their salvation. I know there is a landslide of negative quotes that point to their damnation. Please don’t post those here. Do you have any quotes from the Church or saints that give witness to this hope for their salvation? I know of the few paragraphs in the Catechism that give this hope. Any others? And thanks! 🙂

Actually, all that you need is the few quotes from the Catechism to be assured of what the Church teaches regarding the salvation of non-Catholic Christians, my dear. 🙂

The problem with quotations, such as you seek, is that like their opposites, they can be picked out of context. Besides this, the opinions of even saints are not Church teachings, and again, what they wrote can very easily be taken out of context or “interpreted” however anyone pleases. Be assured then that what the Church teaches in the Catechism is the truth. What matters is the intentions of the non-Catholic Christian, what he knows and what he is able to accept under his circumstances. In this God alone is the judge, not anyone here or anyone else, for that matter. Pray for your family members and be a good witness before them, answer their questions as best as you can, and leave them in God’s merciful hands.

I agree with Della. If you had such quotes, what would you do? Stop praying for their conversion?

And that servant who knew his master’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more. (Luke 12:47-48)

You might appreciate this article:

Never forget to pray and work for the conversion of your loved ones.

Paragraph 15 of The JOINT DECLARATION ON THE DOCTRINE OF JUSTIFICATION by the Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church dated 1999 states:

“Together we confess: by grace alone, in faith in Christ’s saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.” The declaration acknowledges that good works are a genuine response to God’s grace—not the cause of it.

There is nothing precluding protestants who believe in this statement from being accepted by God.
