Hello, I have a small fund from a group that I want to donate to a non profit related to ending racism, but I don’t want to support BLM directly, nor do I want the organization to be overtly catholic/christan. Our group is a mix of different people with different views, so I’m looking for a non-political and secular organization that does good work for our brothers and sisters of colour, like maybe something educational. Please post if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

The first two off of the top of my head are the NAACP and The United Negro College Fund. Both are long established institutions but I would look into charity evaluation sites to see their ratings. Charity Navigator is one such site.

I know many new charities not related to BLM have appeared but I have no knowledge about them. Sorry.

While there are non profits involved with issues of racial discrimination and injustice and to one extent or another may be effective in dealing with the results of racism, the only thing which will actually reach out and reduce racism is something which changes people’s hearts.

And while I am not so naive as to suggest that Christianity will do that, it appears to have the ability to do so, if people actually follow what Christ taught.

Certainly there have been aberrations in the past, of subsets of Protestantism which were virulently racist, and the Catholic Church has had its own issues with racist decisions; in the 1960’s, for example, there were seminaries which would not admit a Black student.

But following Christ’s command to “Love one another as I have loved you” is at the heart of changing people.

I think you meant SPLC. As they have expanded their reach beyond racism to all they determine to be “hate groups”, they have wandered down or very close to the path of political correctness.

However, they have in the past done a vigorous job of defending people and extending laws against racist activity.

Didn’t the NAACP get all buddy-buddy with Planned Parenthood recently? Don’t quote me on that until I fact check it. (I promise no links from Breitbart or Lifesite, lol!)

Come to think of it, one good option for Catholics may be to find and fund a convent or monastery - the more local and close to you, the better - that is active in fighting racism. I’ll have to poke around and research some options.
