Radical sanation

Hi all,

I applied for and received radical sanation of my marriage in 2006. Our wedding occured in June of 1975. According to what I have read, convalidation occured at the moment the sanation was granted, but it was retroactive to our wedding date in 1975. This means my marriage is canonically valid from that date.

So can I legitmately say I have been in a Catholic marriage from the beginning?

Sounds to me like you answered your own question. 🙂 Retroactive means just that - since the beginning.

That is my understanding.
 
Yep, a radical sanation makes it valid since day one of the civil marriage. I know this because I was granted one last yr for my marriage.
 
yes the meaning of the name is “healed at the root” that is, from the beginning.
 
OK, thanks all, that’s what I thought…I am applying for entry to my diocesan permanent diaconate formation program and one of the criteria is to be in a Catholic marriage for at least 5 years…I guess I’m covered…Peace, Jacobaer
