OK, maybe I’m putting too much thought into this, but I wanted your opinions…

I was just talking to my two young daughters (6&3) about birthday party ideas. We were looking through a list, and they both loved the sound of a rainbow party. Sounds fun to me, I loved rainbows when I was little, and I put them on EVERYTHING.

Then, it hit me. Gay Pride. :bigyikes: Do you think others would come to that conclusion?

It is a kid’s party, for goodness sakes, but you never know. Let me know if you think it is a bad idea, or if I’m overthinking the whole thing.

(It’s awful that something so beautiful has to come to symbolize something so perverse. :banghead: )

If you wanted to keep it in a Catholic theme, use the rainbow as a sign of God’s love for us. There is a color guide that takes the colors of the rainbow, and puts it twords God. White, purity: Red, the blood Christ shed for us, ect… Please forgive me, I’m tired, and I don’t remember them all. If I attended your Rainbow party, I would have never thought gay-pride, I would have thought “Oh, a Rainbow Brite party”, and it would have taken me back to my childhood.

To paraphrase Sigmund Freud, sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow.

Love this Craftymom… the rainbow is a sign of hope as well…:clapping:

I think we’re playing right into the hands of others when something that has always been thought of as good is made into something bad…😦 Blessings,
Annunciata:)

I think it’s time for us to take our rainbow back.

The Rainbow was a promise, a special gift from God, and when I see a rainbow now, living in Gay Pride capital, it just makes me sad.

Maybe we need to find a way to use the rainbow again for OUR adjenda…which JUST HAPPENS to be both pure and FROM GOD.

I’m tired of crying when I see something that needs to be a sign of hope and deliverance in the context of God’s pure love.

I say go ahead with your rainbow party and God Bless you for doing so! There is no better place for a celebration of color than at a child’s party.

I think rainbows are for ethnic diversity, so that’s nothing that would be out of place at a kid’s party.

If you throw a little Noah’s ark in, though, it becomes a Biblical theme. (And all the animals make it that much more festive and fun.)

The gay pride symbol is inverted pink triangles. If I’m not mistaken, that’s what Hitler and the Nazis made the homosexuals wear. It is not out of place for a Catholic to join in the sentiment of “never again”. The Catholic Church, unlike the Nazis, do not have it out for homosexuals, per se.

It was a covenant and I agree God gave it to us to use for good. I also agree with the other idea about the ark, You could even do a paper mache ark and fill it with candy and small animals. It would be great for the children also to remember the rainbow was a covenant from God. How else will they learn this with all these gay right activists out there acting like this is a sign for them.

I am with JC Phoenix. We cannot let a beautiful symbol be co-opted by a group with an agenda.

I want the rainbow back as a symbol of hope and promise. My CCE kids draw rainbows when studying Noah’s ark. I want children to play with Rainbow Bright and the Care Bears with Rainbow tummies without it being a double entendre.

By the way, I want the word “gay” back too.

Sorry if I sound grumpy.

:clapping: Point taken.

Thanks, everyone! I love the suggestions!

I was told the new buper sticker for the equal rights movement in conjunction with the UN for the gay and lesbian community is a sort of purplish bumber sticker with a yellow equal sign.

So maybe they are going to leave the rainbow alone now.

Hmm… They are only 6 and 3 so this shouldn’t really be any big deal, but I’d thought I should mention it anyway.

In my old high school (graduated last year), and in many schools, a “Rainbow party” is an “Oral Sex” party. The girls put on many different shades and colors of lipstick, and, well, you can fathom the rest.

But the people you would be inviting to this party would be way to young to understand this second meaning, so I don’t think you should have any trouble. But if any of you other parents are letting your teen-aged daughters host a “rainbow” themed party, be very very wary.

I’m speechless…
:bigyikes:

That just made me feel ill.

But thank you for informing us. I graduated high school 10 years ago, there was a lot of sex too but I didn’t think it could of become worst.

Yes, especially since it is the particular sport of some of those hitting adolescence badly to try to feel more “adult” by perverting that which is most innocent. It’s as if they are in a point in their lives when they can’t stand being a “baby” a minute longer and yet can’t let go of their teddy bears, either. Poor old teddy gets dragged along for a very sad ride (metaphorically speaking).

Stacy -

If you go with the rainbow & Noah’s ark idea, here’s a fun game if there are enough children. Have pairs of cards with pictures of animals on them & pass them out to the children. They make the sound of their animal to find their other half. Spread the children out so it’s not too easy!

Why not tie in your rainbow party theme with the biblical account of Noah’s ark? After all, the sign of God’s covenant with Noah after the flood was the rainbow.

What a fabulous idea!!!

I remembered where I heard the color scheme from. It is a song by Petra. It’s a pretty old one, but I really like it still.
