I wanted to ask - if the apostles and those associated with him had witnessed jesus bring lazurus back to life, why were they ever afraid to never see the Lord again after he had been taken down from the cross? I suppose what I’m trying to say is ‘was there still a shred of doubt permeating through the minds of jesus’ followers, even after the raising of lazurus, which would justify their concern for his death?

I would say yes to the shred of doubt. I’ve seen the power of God at work in my life, yet I struggle to have faith at times when I’m facing something that scares me.

Certainly the Apostles should have known better, but then again, human nature is not always ready to believe in something, even when we’ve seen it before.

Also, they saw Jesus there when Lazarus was raised. Perhaps they thought if Jesus was in the grave, they wouldn’t have that physical presence required (another Jesus) to raise him. To me, it’s a seeming lack of faith in God above when we have God physically present in the Son right in front of us…a “God is dead” moment (?).

**Deeply ingrained in the Jewish mind of the 1st century was the idea the the Messiah would liberate Israel from the hated Roman occupation. Jesus’ followers expected this of Him right up to the moment of His arrest.
It came as a brutal shock to see their Leader tortured to death. Such a shock, in fact, that they didn’t know what else to do except to return to their former occupations and grieve.
After His unexpected re-appearance in a body of flesh, the disciples finally began to comprehend the true meanings of His Teachings.

Does that answer your question? **

Because our LORD raised Lazarus, but physically, after the death, there was no HIM to raise HIM?

Death is the ultimate, final barrier in human life. Once it had claimed HIM, His friends were justified, to a point, in doubting He’d be there any more.

Agreeing to what previous posters have said, I would also stress that there is always a “shed of doubt”. Whatever miracles we see or experience in our lives, at some point the impression fades and we may start doubting: “Was it true? Was it real?” That’s our human nature.
