Could the Roman Catholic Church’s sex abuse crisis be tied to embedded Satanic and occultic imagery in its artwork – some of it hundreds of years old?

That is the seemingly incredible thesis of a new documentary, “Rape of the Soul,” made not by anti-Catholic bigots, but by devout followers of the Church. “Rape of the Soul” is in theatrical release in major cities, including New York and Los Angeles.

Unbelievable!!!

What do you all make of this?

The web site is real sick looking and I do question their motives and their findings. They may be CINO. That being said, I hate sick looking art and I probably would not like the pieces they are pointing to. I can say that many pieces of art seem Satanic to me that are hanging in the Art Institute in Chicago. Picasso seems twisted, etc. You get the picture. I don’t appreciate art that is very controversial.

I’m interested to see what exactly they come up with… If it’s totally exaggerated… blown out of proportion… or if they have serious concerns. Understandably, the topic of art in the Catholic Church has caused many people to question the Church. However, I don’t think you can blame the actions of only a few priests on the ART…

All in all… just another example of the accepted prejudice against Catholics… We’ll see how this one turns out.

Some of it “hundreds of years old?” Gee, do you suppose those Raphael Madonnas and Michelangelo’s David are “satanic?”

Look, I’m no fan of modern art (anything after about 1800 usually makes me queasy, though that is purely my own subjective opinion), and if one extends “art” to “music” I have some grave doubts about modern Church “music”. . .but this article appears hyperbolic at best and libelous at worst. . .

I’ll keep an open mind. Pope Leo XIII was very worried about satanic influence at the end of the 1800’s.

As for who they are, Judith Riesman has done extensive work discrediting Kinsey. I’ve always considered her an ally in the culture war.

Even though Norman Rockwell was a commercial artist. He is/was still an awesome artist. To say that all art after the 1800’s is vulgar is largely ignorant. IMHO.

I don’t believe that I said that all art after the 1800s was vulgar, so please don’t imply that I did. I said that most of it makes me queasy, for as many reasons as there are different art works, and that is my SUBJECTIVE opinion, thank you very much. If you disagree with me please disagree with what I really said, not your erroneous interpretation of it.

Tantum ergo:

Okay. My interpretation of what you said was in error. Satisfied? Modern art…formless expressive shapes…makes no sense to me. But I guess that is in the beholder. And I still think Rockwell is awesome…everything he did.

Thank you. I did say “usually” because there are certain exceptions, probably more than I realize, and also because “art” means many things; museum art differs often from popular art, though they can overlap etc. Actually I live not far from the Norman Rockwell museum and I have definitely enjoyed calendar depictions of his work from the “Saturday Evening Post”. No queasiness at all when I see Mr. Rockwell’s work.

Pax!

Just quickly, cuz I’m getting hauled away to do some chores… But a few years ago I was at a bar mitzvah… The reception was at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and we had to walk through a section of Christain art. Beautiful paintings of scriptural scenes, crusifixions, yadda yadda yadda… To most who passed through the wing I think they were oblivious to it. For me, I had to stop and admire the paintings, and my date (she’s Jewish) admired them with me. But either a faux pas or it was deliberate, I just thought it funny that we walked through a wing of Christain art for a reception to a bar mitzfah, and even wondered if some the other Jews in attendance might have felt “queazy” themselves. The fher of the boy is a Jew, and the mother an RC, and a great planner with attention to deatil…wondering if she had planned this… sneaky woman…heh heh heh. Anyhow Tantum ergo, I didn’t mean any slam with my earlier post, but I guess it really depends on the subject material, its context, and frame of mind (emotional, intellectual) when viewing or listening to said art

If they discovered this, why are they devout followers of the church? Call me skeptical. It reminds me of the backward masking theory that became popular back in the 80’s. A bunch of Evangelical churches became convinced that there were subliminal messages recorded backwards in most popular rock music. Stairway to Heaven supposedly said “my sweet Satan”.

If you want to find hidden messages, you will. This is no different.
It’s another reason I stopped reading World Net Daily. They are nothing more than an online tabloid.

I find the movie’s web site to be highly suspect. The web site artwork is decidedly anti-catholic looking: three skeletons dressed as bishops doing “see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, speak-no-evil” poses.

The preview trailer at the web site is blatantly sensationalistic with a blaring cacophony of horror-movie music that deliberatly mocks a children’s church choir. Visuals include pictures of traditional and some modern religious art with satanic images being highlighed using CGI special effects. And all this is interspered with pictures of pedophile priests and the faces of cherubic children.

If the trailer is any indication of the movie as a whole then I’ve seen Nazi propaganda movies that were more sutble than this garbage. The filmmakers can say they are “devout” Catholics all they want… I’m not buying it.

The human mind can find patterns anywhere. Clouds, the lunar surface, the Bible, static on the radio. I would be more worried if no one ever saw satanic looking symbols in art. It wouldn’t be natural.

Yours in Christ,
Thursday

Smells funny to me. Was doing a few investigations. One of those Experts the Radio Liberty guy, his radio liberty website has a lot of links to Non-Denomination or Universal Churches. Even the webdesigners to Rape of the Soul and Silver Sword which is named Omega something. When you look at their Showcase thingy a lot of their clients are Christian artist or Pastors. Well they only have about a dozen clients. But I would say at least close to half. Not that it means anything. It just smells funny. Just do some investigations yourselves and you’ll see. I’m dead beat. If anything I’ll post my findings tomorrow.

ARGH! GO AWAY YOU MORONS!!!

Some people look for sex in everything. Michael Calace, Bryan Wilson Key, Stanley Monteith, Marc Oster and Judith Reisman all find sex embedded ( no pun intended) in art all the way from Raphael and Botticelli to the present.
To paraphrase Lincoln…if you look for the worst in someone you will surely find it. Even when it ain’t even there.

I saw this advertised on WND’s site and it is absolutely the LAST time I will visit their website. They are sensationalistic pandering neo-cons. They are not true conservatives in the least. They have the inverted cross that Pope John Paul II used when he visited Jerusalem and they are calling THAT Satanic? Hey, folks… Saint Peter was crucified upside down at his own request because he did not wish to be crucified like his Lord. That symbol has been a Christian symbol a lot longer before than the Satanists perverted it. From that alone I could see they were just pandering.
