Happy Easter everyone. If you don’t have time to read my whole post, please pray the Divine Mercy, Psalm 88, and any other Christian or Jewish prayers for my grandmother, R.
My once strong, independent grandmother (dad’s mother) is suddenly declining at an alarmingly fast rate. She lives an hour and 40 minutes from my family, and my aunts, who are her two other children live on the other end of the country. She hasn’t been married for the past 40 years and had gotten used to living by herself. She has always refused to move to my city, and this is still the case.
She recently started having 24 hour care, due to confusion as well as a fall two months ago… Since the fall, she has had to use a wheelchair permanently. She does not like being in a wheelchair or having people living with her 24 hours a day, and this has caused her depression to get worse.
My family and I visited her a few weeks ago, and she was clearly depressed, but her thinking and her executive functioning seemed fine, if a little slow. But my aunt just got back from staying with her for a week, and my aunt noticed clear signs of Alzheimer’s or something similar. For example, my aunt’s trip coincided with the delivery of a hospital bed to my Grandmother’s house, and when my aunt was driving from the airport to her house, my aunt called my grandmother to remind her of the bed delivery, and this caused my grandmother to start shouting and then sobbing. Needless to say, my aunts trip did not go well. My grandmother kept saying things like her children are abusing her and she made some nasty remarks, which is not like her. They finally canceled the delivery of the bed, but this caused my grandmother to become manic and delusional. She went back to being depressed right before my aunt had to leave.
So please pray for her, especially the Divine Mercy and perhaps those who are praying the Novena to the Holy Spirit could remember her as they pray this beautiful novena that started yesterday. She is Jewish but not religious. On account of her Judaism, I invite everyone to pray Psalm 88 , any other Psalm, or other Jewish prayer. We would love her to move down to my city, but more importantly we pray that, whatever happens, she may dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever, and praise our Triune God for endless days. Amen.
