@rocklobster, the link didn’t work for me, but I did a youtube search and found that cover. It’s pretty darn good, and that’s even considering I’m not crazy about the original. I’ll give it a 7.

@(name removed by moderator), it’s actually pretty hard to judge Piano Man at this point because of how often it’s played. Still, if I try to put myself into the ears of someone who hadn’t heard before they’d find it very evocative and a little catchy. I’ll give it an 8 out of 10.

Next person, let us know how you’d rate Strawberry Letter 23 (as covered by The Brothers Johnson):

6 perhaps. Melody. Quite reasonable. Lyrics. Not so much for this 70+ yr old gal.

Yes. “Roundabout”

“Roundabout?”
9.5. Great harmonies and instrumentals. Inscrutable yet very spiritual lyrics. The Yessongs version is best.

Total eclipse of the heart brings back good memories I give it a 7.

I like Simple Minds. This particular song with its tempo and the verses, it feels like it’s building toward a hook that never comes. Still it’s pretty good. 6/10.

Keeping the ocean theme going with: Saltwater by Geowolf.
Full disclosure: I first heard it on a beer commercial for Corona Beer and wanted to hear the full song.

Vasily Kalinnikov: Symphony No. 1 in g minor, Movement 4
I have often said I never met a Russian composer I didn’t like. Kalinnikov is no exception. Vaguely reminiscent of Borodin.I liked it.
I’d rate 8.5 or 9. Execution could be slightly better.

Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 29 in B-Flat Major, “Hammerklavier”: Movement 1 (played on a fortepiano, hence the timbre)
