How did your rcia program go? Was it helpful or a lot of fluff, did it make you feel well prepared?

I would say mine was awesome, you really should have had an option for that. I was very fortunate because I was able to attend RCIA at the University of St. Thomas here in Houston. I call mine the advanced RCIA because I had professors teach the class which was excellent. There was no heresy and it was very easy going and intellectual, just the way I like it.

I came out of it with a devotion to the Eucharist. On those grounds, it is difficult to complain. 🙂 However, I have surmounted the obstacle on occasion.

My RCIA has been pretty good so far. It has taught me a quite a few things. More focus on the bible and catechism would be nice however:)

I checked “had to do it but waste of time.” But it wasn’t really a waste of time since it required the exercise of patience and obedience. If you’re going to be Catholic, those are two things you had better be familiar with!

I was wondering the same thing… where’s the option for a really good program? I took it because I had to take it to convert, but since I’ve studying and practising the faith since I was 10 or 11, most of it was review. However, I consider myself very privelaged to have met not only a very holy and orthodox priest, but such a wonderful team of devout instructors. I couln’t have asked for a better group of people to pass on the faith. I can’t remember even once being told anything that contradicts the teachings of the church.

The only thing I would have changed about my RCIA experience when I went through it would have been more conservative team members…there were team members talking about women ordination, etc…and that didn’t sit to well with me.

The poll only has one positive response and three negative to choose from, and the positive is pretty wishy washy imo. my RCIA class was AWESOME. A great team (lead by the Deacon) Teachings were right along our orthodox diocese stance. No question went unanswered and from what I can recall no answers contrary to Rome’s teachings.

I went in not knowing what to expect, but not real comfortable talking religion in group settings. And now - I am a totally changed person! In fact I’m going to be sad when the class is over. 😦

One teacher said that all men didn’t descend from Adam and Eve Another mentioned that she was pro choice but hopes that people make the right decision. Another suggested we read the DaVinci Code. We were taught that it doesn’t matter what denomination we choose, and constantly reminded not to take scripture literally. I don’t know if there is anything wrong with guided imigary meditation, but I didn’t think it was important, it felt new agish. More from the Catechism would have been nice. The people were warm and nice and I enjoyed it but I don’t need to be told to skip men from “for us men and our salvation”.

I went through RCIA a few years back and it wasn’t good at all. They really couldn’t answer any hard questions. I ended up deciding not to become Catholic. I studied on my own for a long time and then decided I was ready to enter the Catholic Church. I had to go through RCIA again, though. I went to a different Church and there RCIA program was really good. The priest and the mass are pretty modernized(which I don’t care for) but, the program was good.
