i DONT THINK SCOTT WAS SERIOUS—HE WAS MOCKING MY EARLIER POST—BUT LONG LIVE THE POPE BENEDIXT XVI–WOW!!!
Well, with the exception of burning people at the stake. The church never did that. They just turned them over to secular governments and recommended it. My wife even thinks I am too over the top with my conservatism in theology. I simply maintain that people want an unchanging standard to gauge their lives by.

. The reason why many people like him on here is because he will lead the Church in orthodox teaching.
Uh…Orthodox teaching? I thought we were suppose to be taught CATHOLIC!!!

Orthodox meaning “same doctrine”, as opposed to heterodox, meaning “other doctrine”. An Orthodox Catholic is one who agrees with all of the established church doctrines, i.e., they aren’t a dissenter or a heretic.

Hey I have a question for you guys: Would you really want a pope that is 79? I saw in my fiancee the anguish and grief when JP2 was so sick and then died. Just wondering if you would want to go through that again so soon. Not saying that he’s on his last leg, but statistically, he can’t have much longer. Seems to me like the more often you have to elect a pope, the more unsettled things are? Keep in mind that I am a protestant (who’s getting ready to be a Catholic) so I may be talking somewhat out of school on this. Don’t take any offence to my constant questions.
Death is a part of life, a very important part. Suffering and death can bring us closer to the cross of Jesus if we let it. Old age is as important as youth, and JPII illustrated this beautifully, using his life as both a prayer and as a lesson to us. “Unsettled” is sometimes a good thing, if we allow it to be, to cause us to question our own piety and become more alive in our faith. Human life is full of suffering in this world, it brings us closer to Christ and helps us to let go of this world to be at home with God. Yes, it was painful to watch Pope John Paul II suffer for so many years, but I loved him and his death felt similar to the death of my grandparents who lived full, fruitful lives and deserved rest with God. It is both happy and sad, but I have had so much hope, and trust with all my heart that the Holy Spirit will guide the Conclave, and God’s will shall be done. It may very well be in Gods’ plan that our next pope will be more elderly. My human reason is not necessarily God’s will.

Rat Slinger, eh? We can hope 😃
When my husband announced that Cardinal Ratzinger has been elected for Pope, my four year old son looked up so seriously and said “Cardinal Rat Singer?”

When we explained he said “good I didnt’ think rats could sing anyway.” We tried not to laugh.

I had already explained earlier in the week the difference between a Cardinal of the church and the cardinals in our back yard.
