I’ve been contacted by someone who grew up Mormon who wants to become Catholic. I have a couple of questions before I meet with her and can’t ask my pastor because he’s out of town. I figure I’ll get good answers here.
First, my understanding is that we don’t recognize Mormon baptisms. Is that correct? So she would be a catechumen looking for baptism rather than a baptized candidate, right?
In case she asks me, why is it that we don’t recognize their baptisms? I think it has to do with their understanding of the Trinity – either that they don’t accept the Trinity at all or don’t have the same understanding that most Christians do – but I’d like to know more.
Is there anything else I should know before I meet with her?
Thanks for your help!
