So, recently I posted a topic about baptism. A friend of mine didn’t understand it so I spoke to her and she changed her mind and decided she wanted to be baptized. I spoke to the Sister of our local parish and she suggested that my friend attend RCIA classes.

The tricky thing is this friend of mine is VERY anti-Catholic. However, as per the Sister’s suggestion I asked my friend if she’d like to take classes with me in the fall. So far I’ve received no answer but now I’m a bit curious.

I never asked the Sister because I didn’t want to question her judgment but is RCIA really appropriate for anti-Catholic individuals? Can it be used as a tool to evangelize?

What do YOU think? 🤷

I’m interested in hearing the answer to this question as well. I’m planning on investigating RCIA for myself to learn more about the Catholic faith, but without the intention of necessarily joining the Catholic Church afterward.

since the first part of RCIA is specifically about evangelization the answer is yes. it is the only systematic way we have to answer the questions people have about the Catholic faith, which is why the first period of RCIA is called Inquiry, or pre-evangelization, in other words, the time in which hopefully we help the individual move to a place where they can listen to the message with an open mind.

good job on your part evangelizing btw, your own witness, encouragement and support are at least as important in this stage as a class would be.

The sister did say that those not intending to join the Church are free to take RCIA. I would just let everyone know before hand that it is not your intention to join the Church.

🙂 If RCIA IS good for evangelizing I have a bajillion people I’ll be inviting. 😉 That’s why I asked. Haha.

For someone like this, I like to recommend the RCIA programs that I offer through my website, CatechisimClass.com.

The RCIA programs consists of 6 series and after you read through them all and complete the online quizes, you will understand the Catholic Faith. The series are as follows:
  1. Old Testament
  2. New Testament
  3. Life of Christ (aka Rosary Mysteries)
  4. The Creed
  5. The Sacraments
  6. The Mass
Here is a link to our lessons. The top one is the Adult Program which is our RCIA program: catechismclass.com/lessons

When you are ready I also encourage you to purchase the special lessons to prepare you to receive the Sacraments: catechismclass.com/series/6

Usually, coming to a decision to go to a parish can be hard for a non-Catholic but attending online classes is usually easier for a non-Catholic to accept.

When you are ready I also encourage you to purchase the special lessons to prepare you to receive the Sacraments:
CAUTION!

You do not have to purchase this guy’s “special lessons” to participate in RCIA or receive the sacraments. Go to your local parish where they will give you everything you need AT NO CHARGE.

The parish RCIA team is there to walk with you and offer you whatever assistance you need. They’re not trying to make a buck off of you.

Hey! Wait a minute! I’m not saying that the Sacraments cost anything. I am saying that I offer catechism lessons to help people understand the Sacraments and the Faith so as to be in a better state to enter the Church.

Many parishes and bishops use my products. catechismclass.com/endorsements

I offer products that compete with Ignatius Press and other similar publishers. I am a Catholic publisher just as they are.

Depending on how well RCIA Insruction is; it’s an ideal tool for evangulization. It’s goal for the first half of the program is to explain [and debate, God wiling] What catholic beleive an WHY we beleive it.

Most folks don’t dislike the CC; they dislike what they have been taught in ERROR about the CC. RCIA offers a friendly and [God willing] great opportunity to learn the facts and discuss misunderstandings.

So long as your friend understands the importance n role of the Bible as God’s Inspired Words [2 Tim. 3:15-17], RCIA ought to address many of her preconceived notions, and explain the actual TRUTH:)

Nicki,

I’d suggest if that your able to charm her into attending that you advise Sister before hand of your friends position so that she can be prepared for it.

Love and prayers,
Pat
