In our parish the RCIA catechumen are being baptized and confirmed on Easter but the candidates are being confirmed and receiving communion a week later, on the second Sunday of Easter.

I have never heard of this happening before, has anyone else?

It is probably not the norm but is acceptable. They could actully be brought into full communion at any time before Easter… though there are probably some days [where liturgically this would not be correct like Holy Thursday and Good Friday].

If they are already validly babptized they can be brought into full communion when they are deemed [by the authority - priest/bishop] to be adequately catechized about the catholic faith and when the person has indicated that they seek full ciommunion …

For the Elect, the Easter Vigil is the common day for which the Sacraments of Initiation [Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist] are received … Even for the Elect there can be circumstances when the day of Initiation can be moved … the potential for death before Easter is one …

That is how it should be.

This is probably better than the Saturday Vigil. I watch the Candidates sit for 3+ hrs at the vigil then they get about 3-5 minutes by the alter and their done.

it depends on the wishes of your bishop or pastor, and there may be many reasons why this is so. In our diocese the bishop reserves confirmation of Catholic adults to himself, so only the newly baptized and non-Catholic Christians are confirmed at the Easter vigil.

according to the ritual book it is actually preferred that the baptized be received into full communion with the Church at another time, rather than at the Easter Vigil, so their status as baptized persons is not overlooked.

That’s when my class was initiated. But we did it through a campus ministry setting, and we don’t have an Easter Vigil, so in order to have everyone initiated together, we waited until the second Sunday.

We technically had the option of being received at Easter Vigil in our home parishes, but as far I know, nobody has ever actually done that before.
