RCIA question (I think)

Hello all,

I have what I hope isn’t too odd of a question!

I am 22, was baptized and raised in the Church (although not a regular at Mass until a year or so ago), and was in CCD long enough to have my First Communion, then a while after my First Communion, my family moved and I never completed CCD. The last few years my faith has exploded and I am pretty much ashamed that I was not confirmed years ago! 😊

I know I am too old for CCD and am unaware if RCIA is the right program for me, having grown up in the Church and having had my baptism and First Communion already, as well as being quite well informed about the Faith. Still, there is always that issue of not being fully confirmed that bothers me and I want to remedy it as soon as possible.

My question (at long last) is, what step(s) do I need to take to become fully confirmed in the Church? Do I go to RCIA or is there some other program for incomplete Catholics like me? lol

Thanks! 😃

Your parish Priest can help you with this. RCIA is the usual way inwhich an adult fully enters the Church but it is not absolutely the only way. Your Priest will be very happy to help you in the right direction. God bless.

I agree, talk to your priest.

My parish has an adult confirmation class which is what you need. Sometimes, however, due to logistics, everyone gets lumped together into RCIA. It will just depend on the parish.

And welcome back! 😃

I also think you should approach your priest. Because it hasn’t been all that long ago that you went through CCD, RCIA might be too basic for you. On the other hand, it wouldn’t hurt to have a refresher! My RCIA has had adults in your situation who have received Baptism, First Penance, and First Holy Communion but were never Confirmed. They generally enjoy learning about their faith all over again. So if your priest suggests RCIA, it can be an experience of much blessing to you. Welcome back! 👍

NO, RCIA is not the correct process for you. You should be attending an Adult Sacramental Preparation Process. It should last a few months and focus specifically on the Sacrament you are preparing to receive. Otherwise we should send all adults preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage to RCIA instead of Marriage preparation! That of course does not make any sense. If you are preparing for Confirmation you should be in an Adult Confirmation Preparation porgram.
