Can someone who is Catholic take RCIA classes? I was thinking about them for myself as I have been away from the church and have recently returned. I need some “brushing up” as I see from some of the forum posts that there is a whole lot I either don’t know, or don’t remember.
Thanks for your help,
~ KATHY ~

Talk to whoever runs the RCIA program for your parish. I don’t see why they shouldn’t mind having Catholics audit their classes. Better still, volunteer to help. Whether you only help make photocopies or man the phone tree, I am sure they would appreciate it. You may even volunteer to teach/facilitate one session (on some topic of the Faith you are competent to teach and after having your presentation approved by the pastor or his RCIA delegate.) By competence I do not mean that you need teaching credentials, but that you understand, agree with, and can communicate Church teaching on that subject. Preparing to teach a subject to others can be a useful way of increasing your own learning.

your DRE will be thrilled to have you join the class as a sponsor for one of the non-Catholics, you will learn more than you ever thought possible, and fill a role that is part of the responsibility of the parish community, and make great friends.

Some parishes even have returning catholic classes. Either way, the RCIA director at your parish should have no problem with you sitting in. And, as other’s have said, volunteer to help out.
