Hey guys, I have a weird RCIA situation but I just wanted to know if I’m going about it in the right way. Basically I live in the U.S. but am going to school internationally and am back and forth in different places for only a few months at a time. I’ll be back in the states after this December, but then I’ll be in differing cities every few months. So, my problem was that I wanted to join the Church, but have no idea when the next point in my life will be when I can complete a 9 month+ RCIA class at one specific Church. I’ve been a protestant my entire life and took this problem to a local Catholic Church in my hometown. The priest and RCIA director agreed to try to help me out by basically printing out all the weekly handouts up through December (when I’ll be back home) and I basically just read the handouts and correspond with them via email whenever I have any specific questions. In december I’ll be able to join the class for about 3 weeks, and then I’ll be in a completely different city for 6 weeks. During that 6 weeks I’m going to try to join into a local RCIA class and then I’ll be back home with my original RCIA class up until Easter in my hometown. This is the plan that we mapped out with the priest and RCIA director or at least the one they said they would be willing to try with me.
I’m excited about the prospect of finally being able to join the Church, but am just worried that maybe I’m going about this the wrong way?
The closest time that I can figure out where I’d be able to do a traditional RCIA class in one place would be perhaps 2007-2008 but I will almost be guaranteed to have some crazy and unpredictable hours during this timeframe and so I can’t be sure I’d be able to attend a class from week to week.
Any thoughts?
P.S. I was baptized as a baby in a protestant church and consider myself to have an above average Bible education, but am completely new to Catholicism and have only begun learning about it in the past year. Thanks.
