today in rcia class we had our Sponsor come for the first time . we were told that are Sponsor
had to come to every thursday class amd every sunday mass. when the class first started back in sept they said they only had to come to some of the thurday meeting now are saying all the meeting .my sponsor cant come to every thurdays works most of them and on sundays she goes to her church . is this a rule that ur sponsor has to come to all the meeting ??🤷

This is my second year as a sponsor. In our parish, sponsors attend each meeting.

Our sponsors do not have to attend all the classes with us there are just a few specific days they are required to attend. So I think every class is is different

Different parishes do things differently. We invite the sponsors and encourage them to come but don’t require it. Personally I would be more concerned about your sponsor going to “her own church” on Sundays. One of the roles of the sponsor is to introduce you to the parish which would be hard to do if she doesn’t belong to it.

Are you and your sponsor able to get together at other times?

You might talk with your RCIA director to see how important it is for your sponsor to come to classes and Mass with you.

When I was going through RCIA our parish required the sponsors to come to all the classes with us that they could (everyone missed one or two classes) and they came to mass with us every Sunday (with a few exceptions for when people are sick or out of town). If we had a sponsor that could not be there as much as required, they had volunteers from the parish work as you primary sponsor, so a couple of people had 2 sponsors, the one they chose and the one from the parish that could be there more.

hi SuscipeMeDomine

when i said her church i mean . i go to a differnt church then she dose (i just started going to church and dont know many people yet) when i started going to rcia they didnt tell me my sponsor had to go to the same church.they just said she has to be in good standing and she is. they said that she needs to come to 75% to 80% of the class(they told me that today) i think she will be able to do this.
