Not sure if I’m posting in the right place or not but I have a rather odd question.

I went through RCIA when I was 14.
  1. Should I have been placed in RCIA? I’ve had a couple of people tell me that I should not have been.
I called the church to get a copy of my baptism certificate (long story… but all my things from that time period are now gone) and they said that they had NO record of me ever being there. My name isn’t in the book like it should have been or anywhere else in thier records and no one there remembered me. Since this was 4 years ago, I don’t remember my sponser’s name or other helpful things like that so…
2. Do I need to go through RCIA again at my new church?

Your answers would be GREATLY appreciated!
 
I don’t know if you should have gone through RCIA or not. If you weren’t baptised, then I think so. If you were, then not. However, most parishes use RCIA for everyone coming into the Church, whether or not they’re already baptised Christians.

If you cannot track down your baptism certificate, you may need to be conditionally baptised, just to get the certificate. The certificate is necessary to get married in the Catholic Church, and sometimes for other things.
 
I suggest you contact your Diocese.You’ll need Priest’s name,Parish,Approx. date,Confirmation name,Bishop’s name.Get as much information as possible.Mine was found after 38yrs.It took a few weeks but Praise be to God,the Sister in "archives"found it.Peace:)
 
When you went through RCIA were you baptized with water at the font? If not then they would not have a baptism certificate for you. Your acceptance into the Church would be recorded in in the book for Full Communion.

I don’t know what the age limit is, but there is a RCIC for children. I think you should have gone through one or the other. Regarding the rest, I don’t want to give bad advice: you’d need to discuss it with your new Pastor. There are provisions for individuals who’ve received emergency baptisms (for instance) or otherwise weren’t baptized in the usual way where they don’t really need to be re-baptized, but they get the rest of the rite and are entered into the book. You may need to go through that, or you may not.

were you already baptized when you started the process? Catholic or another religion? that is what determines what “track” you would have followed for RCIA. If you were baptized someplace else, and received into the Church through RCIA by making a profession of faith, Confirmation and first communion, the record could be in the book for either of those two sacraments.

Call again, ask to speak to the pastor, not the secretary and explain your dilemma. Give as many facts as you have, your full name, parents name, sponsor’s name, baptismal place and date, date you attended classes, name of your catechist (teacher), the person in charge, priest who officiated at your reception, and the dates. Ask family members to help you remember these details.

also make sure you are calling the right parish, our parish name is a common one and we get calls all the time from people who insist they were baptized here, but it turns out to be the “other” parish.

My bet it just needs a more thorough search of the records, if you remember who was in charge at the time, they may remember you! I would if I saw you. Don’t worry, but do follow up, this will become very important when you get married. PM me if another call does not yield results.

there is no such thing as RCIC. Children go through the same RCIA process, geared toward their age and abilties, through the Children’s Catechumenate.
 
I’m sure that I got the church right b/c I remembered the street it was on. I can’t have family help me b/c well, I don’t have any. (It sounds odd, but my family and I don’t speak) My family wasn’t involved in the process either. They strongly opposed it and ended up “accidentally” throwing out my RCIA materials after I had completed it.

I was not baptized at the church as I had been baptized before, but I gave them a copy of my cert. which they said that they placed on file.

When I called to speak with them, I spoke with both the secretaries and the priest. Both say that they don’t remember me (downside to a larger church I guess?) and that there are none of my records there. This is all very odd to me. (I’ve called the church on three separate occasions and spoken with everyone I can. They all checked for me and said that they have nothing on me… )
