Before entering RCIA this year at the end of August, how much before must I talk to the priest?Thank you!

I don’t understand what you are asking.

I start RCIA in Sept. and I haven’t talked to a priest about it. I just called the church office and went on from there.

You can talk to a priest whenever you wish but you are not required to do anything but monitor the class and make your own decision. 🙂

I always thought they had to accept someone before starting classes. Thank you!

Everyone is pre-approved. Just sign up for classes and there will be a period in which you decide whether or not you would like to proceed. Entering the church is purely voluntary and it’s up to you to decide whether your ready to do so or not 👍

Best of luck!😃

I would call and find out. I do know of a parish that requires an interview before acceptence into RCIA class.

I’m on our local parish’s RCIA team. The first several weeks are the inquiry period where you can attend and learn more about the Church, the RCIA process and ask any questions you might have. In most parishes the RCIA team will also make some time to meet with inquirers one-on-one to assess where they are on their faith journey. There is no commitment or pressure to continue - the path to the Church must be freely chosen.

You are certainly welcome, and encouraged, to speak with a priest about anything that might concern you concerning the Church, RCIA, Catholic doctrines, etc.

I encourage you to learn as much as you can by attending RCIA during the inquiry period (and hopefully beyond it) to see if this path is for you.

As a convert to Catholicism, I can truly say that becoming a member of the Body of Christ as part of the Catholic Church has been the best and most joyous thing I have done.

Everyone is accepted! Sometimes the priest or RCIA directors like to talk to everyone beforehand to get to know them a little bit and see if any documents will be needed later on in the process. Just call the parish office to sign up and they will take it from there. Welcome Home!!

Just come as you are … Come and See (that’s the name of our RCIA process)

not sure I understand the question. You should make an appointment now to discuss the process and your needs. The priest or someone he delegates will interview you to make sure the preparation is suited to your own individual situation, explain the process, look at other issues that might affect your entry into the Church and so forth. The Parish needs time to plan for the participants so you should have already met with someone. in this diocese there is a formal interview that is required early in the process–not before being “accepted” into RCIA, everyone is accepted–but to uncover any issues that should be dealt with during this time. This could be marriage situations, arranging sacraments for minor children, any number of needs you may have. It will be very hard to be properly prepared if people show up at the last minute and I am not expecting them. Here participants are welcome to begin any time during the year, but we also try to make sure they meet with a group that fits their schedule.

You only need to register with the Parish, and follow their advice. I haven’t heard of contacting a Priest First, unless suggested to by the Parish Office… God Bless You in discovering the ideal Beauty of Our Lord, His 1.3 Billion member Roman/Orthodox Church: Largest Faith in the world, As Begun by Our Saviour. :signofcross::highprayer:

As one who directs the RCIA Process within our parish, I like to meet with the person who is going to be joining in to get a feel of where they are in their faith journey, to answer any questions that they might have and to see what their marital status is. If they have been married previously and are in another marriage, then we need to address those issues early on so there is no impediment when they decide to become Catholic. I hope that helps you. good luck in your journey

Before I began RCIA, I met with a deacon who coordiantes the program. He described the process and the requirements so that I would know what to expect. I’m guessing that he also used the discussion as an opportunity to get to know me a little so as to better match me with a sponsor.

A weeks notice will surfice, but the more you give the easier it is for them to prepare, so unless there is a REALLY god reason go ahead and set up your appointment.

God Bless you,

Pat
