I really hope to join RCIA this year. I have been practicing the catholic faith for 7-8 years and know A LOT about the faith. If there was a two year RCIA program, is it possible for it to be changed to 1 year for me since I already know so much about the faith? Also can you tell me a little bit about what is covered int he RCIA? Thank you. Would be helpful if a priest or someone who has had a similar experience to answer.

Each parish is likely to have either their own program ot their version of the RCIA program.

The concept is to introduce and explain all of our Major belifs and practices.

Your RCIA program could be GREATLY changed from this outline; but this at least gives you an idea of the scope and varity of topics.

1. Expalin “the Chruch” and it’s basic Authority:

1. Expalin the Bible

1. Explain in GENERAL TERMS our Creeds… fuller coverage can be a far later class Apostles and Nicene and disuss the difference

1. The Sacraments

1. Primacy of Peter biblical evidence and early Church Fathers

1. Prayer: forms and necessity…

7.Mary and Marian Issues in general terms:expect lot’s of Q’s.

1. Talk about Catholism and different faiths wth the utmost charity:THEE CC is thee Bible Church… again repeat some of the previous bible teaching history.

1. The Mass [Father ought to hold this class] and walk through it… what we do and WHY we do it.

1. Pick only one or two sacraments to cover in detail each week. Make the Eucharist and Confession one sacrament classes and really cover in detail. [let me know if you need more info?]

For the first three or four weeks I’d have a conversion story to share as part of the class

1. Saints, saints and Indulgences

1. Life of Christ [Catechism Section 3]

1. The Commandments: Catagories of sin; NOT the complete list … could be two weeks?
   Encourage Q’s and answer them when asked. Don’t put off IF POSSIBLE

Use BOTH the Bible and the Catecheism EVERY WEEK so they beome comfortable using them.

1. Charity Corporal and Spiritual Works of mercy

1. Week Before Easter cover the stations of the Cross.

1. Have a day-long RETREAT in a different setting: woods, by a lake ect. And First
   Confession

Congratulations on your decision. I would say go to your priest and talk to him. I do know a lot of churches are doing programs that go from fall thru lent and do confirmations on the Easter Vigil Mass .

It is great that you know a lot already, Your priest will know when are ready to join.

My recommendation is to speak with a priest. He can assess your level of knowledge of Catholic doctrine and determine whether you would need to attend RCIA or can be received into the Church with minimal additional instruction.

Congratulations on your decision to become Catholic! Speak with your priest about your circumstance. My RCIA classes were only one year for everyone. We went over the history of the Church, the liturgical year, learnt more about who Jesus is, the Church, conscience formation/confession, the sacraments, prayer and devotions, baptism and the season of lent, and Ash Wednesday.
