Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to post. 🙂

I have an interview with the priest at our parish for the part-time position of RCIC Coordinator. This includes children and middle schoolers.

Quick synopsis of how I wound up here: I have my master’s degree and work in education. My commute went from six minutes to an hour, sometimes more, after we moved when I was pregnant. I went on maternity leave and returned to work fall 2019. The commute became unbearable and I had to tell my supervisor I would not be returning fall 2020. One month later, COVID quarantine hit. I was so excited and so grateful to be home with my baby again for an unlimited amount of time! I was optimistic about finding part time work. I had seen part time positions posted many times over the years, of course there would be one for me.

Despite my efforts (revamping resume, applying everywhere nearby, etc), nothing came to fruition. Most of my applications were not even opened when I submitted them. I had a few screening interviews, but nothing happened after. I have no doubt COVID put a strain on hiring. My husband and I decided that I would stay home and raise our toddler full time for this school year. I never thought I’d have this opportunity to stay home.

Then I saw a post from my parish that they were hiring. I thought about it, discussed with my husband, and ultimately decided to apply. The priest reached out and we have an interview set up for this week.

I am most afraid of failing. What if I am ridiculous for thinking I could coordinate the children’s and middle schooler RCIC? Have you had any experiences working in this position (or a similar one)? What are some activities RCIC at your parish (or your kids) have participated in?

I was the RCIA director for my parish and oversaw the person who worked with RCIA for children. I think the single most important thing you can do is get the “rites” book and take it to heart. So much of RCIA seems to be based on how the parish down the street does things or what someone heard should be done. If your diocese offers classes or certification in Christian Initiation, take advantage of it.

Prayerful best wishes.

Every job has a beginning, a middle and an end. I’m sure they will give you time to sort things out in the beginning.
