The Los Angeles Religious Education Congress is coming up. I am debating whether or not to go, given that they do a poor job of screening out dissident speakers. However, I do get “credit” to maintain my catechist certification in my diocese by going, and I live just a few miles away.
Has anyone looked at the list of speakers, and does anyone have any recommendations? I have never heard of most of these speakers, and some of those I have heard of I don’t believe should be allowed to participate as representatives of Catholic teaching. I am considering Katie Prejean McGrady for one session, who from what I can tell is on the straight-and-narrow. Father Robert Spitzer is always interesting, and Dr. Edward Sri seems to get published in some pretty orthodox Catholic publications. I generally like Bishop Barron, although it bothers me that it is his diocese that is giving a voice to some very dissident speakers at this event.
Any other speakers I should consider, from a traditional Catholicism standpoint?
